MUMBAI: In a match between two bottom-placed teams from Zone A,
Dabang Delhi capitalised on
U Mumba's troubled phase and subdued the hosts 33-32 in the 50th match of the Vivo Pro Kabbadi Season 5 at the NSCI, here, on Sunday.
Even a large Sunday crowd failed to bring the best out of local stars, who had won 14 out of 17 games at home. Delhi handed Mumbai their third straight de feat in their backyard and avenged their crushing defeat earlier in the league.
Skipper
Anup Kumar's stellar show (10 raid points) went in vain as Mumba defence failed to reign in the Iranian duo of the skipper
Meraj Sheykh, who accumulated 11 raid points with his quick reflexes, and tall Abolfazl Maghsoudlou (8 points), who used his height to good effect.
An all out with eight minutes remaining proved the tuning point for Delhi as they led 27-22 and never allowed the hosts to stage a come back in the game. A late charge by Anup in the dying minutes of the game did raise some hopes for the local outfit but things did not go their way against the spirited Delhi.
The result left both Delhi and Mumbai on 19 points but the visitors continue to be at the bottom of Zone A on lower score difference. While Mumba have three wins, six losses from nine matches with -23 score difference, Delhi have three wins, five losses from eight matches with -25 score difference.
Earlier, high on confidence after their incredible comeback against
Patna Pirates on Saturday, Bengal Warriors' avenged their defeat and put it across
Bengaluru Bulls 32-26.
Warriors' skipper Surjeet, the cover defender who is known for lethal back holds and body blocks, excelled again and collected eight tackle points. Korean Jang Kun Lee and Virender, with six and five raid points respectively, also played a crucial role in Warriors' victory.
