Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary cricketer, extended his congratulations to Preeti Pal and
Nishad Kumar for their remarkable achievements at the ongoing Paris Paralympics. Preeti Pal secured the bronze medal in the 200m T-35 race on Sunday, becoming the first Indian woman athlete to win two medals in track and field events at the Paralympics or Olympics, a historic feat.
Nishad Kumar, on the other hand, claimed a silver medal in the men's high jump - T47 final early Monday morning. With a season-best performance of 2.04 meters, Nishad replicated his second-place finish from the Tokyo Paralympics three years ago.
In a post on his official X handle, Tendulkar praised the athletes, stating, "Congrats to @nishad_hj for leaping to silver in the high jump!
Preethi Pal, you have excelled with another bronze in the 200m sprint, making it two medals this Paralympics. Together, you both are soaring to new heights and sprinting into our hearts. Well done."
India's medal tally at the Paris Paralympics has reached an impressive seven, comprising one gold, two silvers, and four bronze medals. Rubina contributed to this haul by securing a bronze in the P2-Women's 10M Air Pistol SH-1 final on Saturday with a total of 211.1 points, while Javanmardi Sareh of Iran clinched gold (236.8 points) and Turkey's Ozgan Aysel took silver (231.1 points).
Avani Lekhara, the reigning Paralympic champion, continued her winning streak by striking gold in the women's 10m air rifle final on Friday, with
Mona Agarwal bagging the bronze in the same event.
India's first silver medal at the Paris Paralympics came from
Manish Narwal in the men's P1 10 m air pistol SH1 competition.
India has sent its largest-ever Paralympics contingent to Paris, with 84 athletes participating across 12 sports, showcasing the nation's growing para-sports ecosystem.
The increased participation and medal hopes reflect India's ambition to surpass its previous achievements from the Tokyo Paralympics, where the country won an impressive 19 medals, including five golds, eight silvers, and six bronzes, making it India's most successful Paralympic Games to date.
