NEW DELHI: Anita and Narayana Konganapalle, two Indian rowers, secured the third position in the mixed PR3 double sculls event at the Paris Paralympics on Saturday. The duo completed the race in 7:54.33s, trailing behind Ukraine (7:29.24s) and Great Britain (7:20.53s). Following this result, the Indian pair will now participate in Final B, which determines the rankings from 7th to 12th place.In the heat held on Friday, Anita and Konganapalle had finished fifth, clocking a time of 8:06.84s. Anita, who lost her leg in a road accident at the age of 18, had previously won the gold medal in the World Rowing Asian and Oceanian Paralympic Qualifiers earlier this year.Konganapalle, a former soldier with the Rashtriya Rifles, suffered the loss of his leg in a mine blast while serving in Jammu and Kashmir in 2015. His achievements include gold medals in the World Rowing Asian and Oceanian Paralympic Qualifiers and the Asian Rowing Virtual Indoor Championship.The PR3 category in para-rowing is designed for athletes with residual leg function, which allows them to slide the seat during the rowing motion.
