Indian para-badminton medallists awarded Rs 50 lakh for Paralympic success

The Badminton Association of India has announced a Rs 50 lakh reward for para shuttlers who won medals at the Paris Paralympics. Indian athletes secured five medals: one gold, two silver, and two bronze. This initiative aims to acknowledge their achievements and promote the development of para-badminton in India.

NEW DELHI: The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has announced a total cash reward of Rs 50 lakh for the para shuttlers who secured medals at the Paris Paralympics last month. Indian para shuttlers won a total of five medals: one gold, two silver, and two bronze.
"Indian para badminton players have been performing consistently on the world stage and the cash rewards are just one way for BAI to recognise their efforts in helping the country win medals at the Paralympics," stated BAI secretary-general Sanjay Mishra as per PTI.

"BAI is committed to developing and promoting para-badminton across the country and helping these players achieve much more success and many more initiatives to develop para-badminton are being undertaken," he added.
Nitesh Kumar will receive Rs 15 lakh for winning the gold medal in the men's Singles SL3 category. Silver medalists Suhas Yathiraj and Thulasimathi Murugesan will each get Rs 10 lakh.
Bronze medal winners Manisha Ramadass and Nithya Sre Sivan will each be awarded Rs 7.5 lakh.
Thulasimathi, Manisha, and Nithya made history by becoming the first Indian women shuttlers to win medals at the Paralympics.
The Badminton Association of India (BAI) will organize a virtual interaction session with the players. The session aims to congratulate them and understand their requirements for continued development, considering their tight tournament schedules.
