Indian cyclists Arshad Shaik and Jyoti Gaderiya could not advance in their track cycling events at the Paris Paralympics, both finishing last in the qualification rounds on Saturday. Shaik placed 17th in the men's 1,000m time trial C1-3 by clocking 1:21.416, and Gaderiya finished 11th in the women's 500m time trial C1-3 with a time of 49.233.On Friday, Shaik also did not progress in the men's 3,000m pursuit C2 event, finishing ninth in the qualifying round. Similarly, Jyoti ended at the bottom on Thursday in the women's 3,000m pursuit C1-3 qualifying event.Shaik experienced an auto accident in May 2004, which resulted in multiple injuries and the amputation of his left leg above the knee. Despite this, he won a gold medal in the Asian Para Track Cycling Championship held in New Delhi earlier this year.Meanwhile, Jyoti had a bike accident in May 2016 that led to the amputation of her left leg above the knee. She has also secured numerous gold medals in the Asian Para Track Cycling Championship and the Asian Para Road Cycling Championship.Both cyclists will also compete in upcoming road cycling events. Shaik is set to participate in the men's time trial C2 and men's road race C1-3 categories, while Jyoti will compete in the women's time trial C1-3 and women's road race C1-3 divisions.C1 to C5 are solo categories in para-cycling, competed by athletes with prostheses or limited movement of their upper or lower limbs.
