NEW DELHI: Indian para table tennis players Bhavinaben Patel and Sonalben Patel exited the women's doubles WD 10 competition with a 1-3 quarterfinal defeat to South Korea's A Young Jung and Sunghya Moon at the Paralympics in Paris on Friday.

The eighth-seeded Indian duo lost 5-11, 6-11, 11-9, 6-11 in a 39-minute match at the South Paris Arena.

Both Bhavinaben and Sonalben will now turn their focus to their respective singles events.

Bhavinaben, the Tokyo Paralympics silver medalist, competes in the class 4 category and made history as India's first-ever table tennis medalist at the Paralympics during the Tokyo Games in 2021. Bhavinaben was diagnosed with polio at the age of 12 months.

Sonalben, who competes in the class 3 category, also contracted polio at a young age, six months old, leading to 90 percent disability affecting both her legs and her right hand.

Para table tennis classifications include 11 classes in total: TT1-5 for wheelchair athletes, TT6-10 for standing athletes, and TT11 for athletes with intellectual impairments.
