NEW DELHI:
Arshad Shaik finished ninth and last in the qualifying round of the track cycling men's pursuit C2 category on Friday at the Paris Paralympics.
The 31-year-old clocked a time of 4:20.949, which was not enough to secure a spot in the final round, where only the top four advanced.
France's Alexandre Léauté set a new world record with a blistering time of 3:24.298, clinching the top position. Ewoud Vromant of Belgium (3:27.640), Matthew Robertson of Great Britain (3:28.373), and Shota Kawamoto of Japan (3:29.875) also made it to the final round.
Despite the setback, Shaik will have another opportunity to showcase his skills in track cycling during the men's 1000m time trial C1-3 category on Saturday.
Additionally, he is set to participate in the road cycling events, including the men's time trial C2 and men's road race C1-3.
The C1 to C5 categories are designed for athletes who compete using prosthetics or have limited movement in their upper or lower limbs.
