NEW DELHI: Reetika Hooda, the Indian wrestler, demonstrated her prowess on the mat by defeating Bernadett Nagy of Hungary in the women's freestyle 76kg category at the Paris Olympics on Saturday. The young grappler's dominant performance secured her a spot in the quarter-finals, where she will face Aiperi Medet Kyzy of Kyrgyzstan.

From the start of the bout, Reetika showcased her aggressive style, quickly establishing a 4-0 lead. Despite the passivity clock being on her, she refused to hold back and executed well-timed attacks, scoring two 2-point moves. Nagy managed to respond with a 2-pointer before the end of the first period, keeping the match competitive.



In the second period, Reetika's dominance continued as she employed a skillful leg maneuver to throw Nagy off balance, earning another 2 points and extending her lead to 6-2.

As the match neared its conclusion, Reetika nearly secured a pin, but even though she couldn't complete the fall, her relentless effort earned her additional points. Determined to finish strong, Reetika maintained the pressure on Nagy and ultimately scored a final 2-pointer, ending the bout early with a 12-2 victory by technical superiority as per PTI.

Reetika's next challenge will be the top-seeded Aiperi Medet Kyzy of Kyrgyzstan in the quarterfinal match, scheduled for around 4:25 pm IST on Saturday.

Who is Reetika Hooda?
Reetika Hooda, a promising young wrestler from Rohtak district, Haryana, was born on August 31, 2002. Despite her youth, Hooda has already made a name for herself in the world of Indian women's wrestling, showcasing her exceptional skills and unwavering commitment to the sport.

In 2023, Hooda's hard work and dedication paid off when she secured a bronze medal in the women's 72kg event at the Ibrahim Moustafa Wrestling Ranking Series held in Egypt. She continued to impress with another bronze medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships 2023, further solidifying her position as a rising star in the wrestling community.

However, Hooda's crowning achievement came at the 2024 Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. There, she earned a quota place for India at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, marking a significant milestone in her career and bringing pride to her nation.
