NEW DELHI: Vinesh Phogat, a top Indian wrestler, has entrusted her Paris Olympics disqualification case to the renowned lawyer Harish Salve, who will represent her at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Salve, a former Solicitor General of India and King's Counsel, has an impressive track record of handling high-stake cases.

Phogat, the first Indian woman wrestler to reach an Olympic final, was disqualified by the organisers for being 100 gms overweight before her gold medal match on Wednesday. She later announced her retirement from wrestling in an emotional post on Thursday.

Phogat has moved to the CAS against her disqualification and is seeking a joint silver medal.

Who is Harish Salve?
Harish Salve, born in Maharashtra, completed his law degree at Nagpur University. He became a senior advocate at the Delhi High Court in 1992 and was appointed as the Solicitor General of India in November 1999.

Salve, the son of former minister and ex-cricket administrator NKP Salve, received the Padma Bhushan in 2015 and was appointed as the Queen's Counsel for the courts of Wales and England in January last year. His prominent clients include the Tata Group and Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries.

Harish Salve profilic cases:
Salve has been involved in several high-profile cases in recent years. In 2016, he represented India before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case, where his strong arguments led to a provisional stay on Jadhav's death sentence.

Salve was also among the lawyers who represented the Hindu side in the Ram Janmabhoomi dispute, which resulted in the Supreme Court ordering the construction of a Ram Temple at the disputed Ayodhya site in 2019. Additionally, he successfully represented Tata Sons in the Supreme Court, leading to the court upholding the Tata Group's decision to remove Cyrus Mistry as executive chairperson of Tata Sons in 2016.
