NEW DELHI: Indian athlete Priyanka Goswami finished 41st in the women's 20km race walk at the Paris Olympics on Thursday, clocking a time of 1:39:55.
Priyanka was appearing at her second Olympics.
The 28-year-old was the only Indian participant in the women's 20km race walk event in Paris.
Yang Jiayu of the People's Republic of China clinched the gold medal with a season-best time of 1:25:54.
Spain's Maria Perez took silver with a season-best of 1:26:19, and Australian athlete Jemima Montag secured bronze with an Oceania record time of 1:26:25.
At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Goswami was leading the 20km race walk event at the halfway mark but slipped to finish in 17th place. Later, she became the first Indian woman to medal in the 10,000m race walk at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where she won a silver medal.
Earlier in the day, Indian runner Vikash Singh participated in the men's 20km race walk, recording a time of 1:22:36 and finishing in the 30th position.
The 28-year-old had previously shown promise by finishing fifth in the same event at the Asian Games last year.
Joining Vikash in the men's 20km race was Paramjeet Singh Bisht, who was making his Olympic debut. Paramjeet completed the race in 1:23:48, ranking 37th.
National record holder Akshdeep Singh faced a setback in the men's 20km race, as he bowed out after completing only 6 kilometres and was unable to finish the event.
Ecuadorian athlete Brian Daniel Pintado won the gold medal in the men's 20km race walk with an impressive time of 1:18:55.
Brazil's Caio Bonfim secured the silver medal with a time of 1:19:09, followed by Spaniard Alvaro Martin, who took the bronze with a time of 1:19:11.
