'Are we witnessing one of the all-time great...': PV Sindhu hails Neeraj Chopra following Olympic silver

PV Sindhu praised Neeraj Chopra's silver medal win in men's javelin at the 2024 Paris Olympics, celebrating his back-to-back Olympic medal victories. Sindhu, who questioned if India is witnessing one of its greatest sportsmen, highlighted Chopra's talent and potential to keep making history. Despite Chopra's impressive 89.45-meter throw securing him silver, it wasn't enough to surpass Arshad's gold-winning throw of 92.97 meters. Sindhu, however, faced disappointment in Paris, exiting in the Round of 16 without an Olympic medal for the first time.

NEW DELHI: PV Sindhu has expressed her admiration for Neeraj Chopra's remarkable achievement of winning silver in the men's javelin throw at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Sindhu took to social media to share a picture of herself with Chopra, accompanied by a heartfelt message celebrating his back-to-back Olympic medal victories.
In her post, Sindhu highlighted the significance of Chopra's accomplishment, describing it as a "special achievement" to win gold and silver in consecutive Olympic Games.

"Gold and silver in back-to-back Olympics is a special achievement, Neeraj! We are all so proud of you. Are we possibly witnessing one of the all-time great sportsmen from India dominate his sport like no other? I definitely think so," Sindhu remarked.
Sindhu's praise for Chopra's achievements reflects the pride felt by fellow athletes and the nation as a whole. Chopra's silver medal in Paris came after a best throw of 89.45 meters, falling short of retaining his gold medal from the previous Olympics. Despite four consecutive foul throws, Chopra's second attempt secured him the silver medal.
With this feat, Chopra became the second male athlete from post-independence India to win two Olympic medals in an individual event. His season-best attempt of 89.45 meters was not enough to surpass Arshad's humongous throw of 92.97 meters, which clinched the gold medal.
While Chopra's performance was commendable, Sindhu's own Olympic journey in Paris was marked by disappointment. The 29-year-old shuttler, who secured a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics and a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, returned home empty-handed for the first time in her career.
Sindhu, one of India's brightest medal prospects, had her sights set on a historic hat-trick of medals. However, her quest was cut short in the women's singles Round of 16, where she fell to sixth-seeded Chinese shuttler He Bing Jiao in straight sets, 19-21, 14-21. This defeat marked the first time Sindhu failed to win an Olympic medal.
