Nagpur Test match between India and South Africa created a lot of furore recently, with many South African players and commentators blaming the pitch at the VCA Stadium, Jamtha for the debacle of the Proteas. But the visitors did quite well on a different kind of turf...
Steyn bowled over
After losing out to
Virat Kohli and his feisty fighters in the third Test match, South African players like
Dale Steyn, Dane Villas,
Morne Morkel, Kyle Abott and Simon Harmer made a quick trip to the Pench forests in Maharashtra to beat their blues.
Former South African captain
Shaun Pollock was also there at this jungle safari, informs Atul Deokar, Range Forest Officer at Pench, who accompanied the visitors. He said, "Dale Steyn, who had come along with two of his close friends, was completely bowled over by the variety of wildlife that they saw. It was the South Africans' first tryst with Indian jungles and they simply loved the experience."
Impressive scorecard
According to the forest officer, the visitors scored high on the sighting front. "Dale Steyn and gang saw a tigress within 30 minutes of the morning safari. After that they sighted a leopard, bisons, jackals, blue bulls, peacocks and many spotted dear. By lunch time, they were as enthusiastic as a group of teenagers after getting up close and personal with some amazing beauties of the jungle," said Atul. He added, "Steyn who is usually quite aggressive on the cricketing pitch, was calm as a cucumber during the safari. When I complimented him on this, he said, 'I'm like a tiger on the ground, but a cool guy in real life."
