Veteran Bangladesh cricket all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been named in a murder case filed by Rafiqul Islam, whose son Rubel was killed on August 7 during ongoing protests in Bangladesh. According to a report by the Dhaka Tribune, Rubel was shot in the chest and abdomen during a rally on Ring Road in Adabor, Dhaka, and later succumbed to his injuries.

The case, filed at the Adabor police station, lists Shakib as the 28th accused, while popular Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed is named as the 55th accused. Both Shakib and Ferdous are former Awami League Members of Parliament.

The case also includes former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, along with 154 other individuals, and accuses around 400-500 unidentified persons in connection with the incident.

Shakib, currently touring Pakistan with the Bangladesh national cricket team, was a member of the now-dissolved parliament led by Hasina, who fled the country amid mass protests at the beginning of August.

Despite the ongoing political crisis, Shakib received permission from the interim government to participate in the two-Test series against Pakistan.

Shakib has not yet commented on the political situation or the murder case filed against him.
