Even the Barmy Army, a group of travelling England fans, also decided not to follow the team on tour in Bangladesh owing to prevailing security concerns.
The International Cricket Council, which governs the game worldwide, said it was sad that security concerns were making top players and teams unwilling to travel and preventing a handful of countries from being able to host them.
Other sports are also no stranger to the threat from terrorism. Switzerland has decided not to send athletes to the European Olympic Youth Festival in Turkey because of security concerns.
The committee cites political tension in Turkey and “armed conflict in neighboring countries like Syria and Iraq.”
The Swiss foreign affairs ministry advises avoiding large crowds and traveling to eastern and southeastern Turkey. Austria’s Olympic committee has also decided to skip the event.
Recently, The Turkish Airlines Open in Antalya has been hit by first Tiger Woods' pull out in October and then the announcement by Rory McIlroy to withdraw over security concerns. Also missing the $7 million tournament at the Regnum Carya Golf and Spa Resort are world number four Henrik Stenson and USA Ryder Cup winning hero Patrick Reed.

High-profile sporting events, including the Olympics, football tournaments and cricket matches, have been targeted. In the aftermath of the Paris attacks the entire world has been stunned. The intense security that will undoubtedly be needed will take away the freedom and joy that these events bring.
