NEW DELHI: Michael Slater, a former Australian Test cricketer, collapsed in court after his bail was denied. The incident occurred on Tuesday in a Queensland court, as reported by local media.
Slater, aged 54, required assistance from court personnel to stand up following the magistrate's decision to refuse his bail.
Slater, who is also a television commentator, faces over a dozen charges, including those related to stalking and domestic violence. The charges against him include common assault and unlawful stalking.
It has been reported that over the past six months, Slater allegedly sent unsolicited text messages and engaged in intimidating phone calls.
The court is set to see Slater again at the end of May for further proceedings. During the hearing, it was revealed that Slater has mental health issues that may lead to "impulsive and reckless" actions, as per ABC News.
In his cricketing career, Slater played 74 Test matches for Australia from 1993 to 2001. He scored over 5,000 runs, which included 14 centuries. Additionally, Slater took part in 42 one-day internationals before retiring from all forms of cricket in 2004.
