“The organization was very classy”: Quinn Hughes’ agent Pat Brisson praises Vancouver Canucks for handling difficult trade process
As Vancouver Canucks star Quinn Hughes was traded to the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, his agent has now sent a strong message and has praised the Canucks for a very thoughtful trade process. Hughes’ agent, Pat Brisson, didn't hold back his appreciation for how the Vancouver Canucks handled one of the most difficult trades in franchise history.
Quinn Hughes, the Canucks’ star defenseman, was traded to the Wild on December 12, 2025. In return, Vancouver received two young players, Marco Rossi, Liam Ohgren, defenseman Zeev Buium, and a first-round draft pick in 2026, marking a major transformation for both teams, as Vancouver tries to rebuild after a tough start to the 2025–26 season.
It is to be noted that Hughes won the 2024 Norris Trophy after posting a career-high 92 points and became the fastest player in franchise history to record 300 assists. He also secured 400 career points and finished with 76 points in 68 games, earning another Norris Trophy nomination. Even after having such an illustrious career, the Vancouver Canucks have made it clear behind the scenes that they are prepared to trade Quinn Hughes.
After Quinn Hughes was traded to the Minnesota Wild, the star defenseman’s agent, Pat Brisson, praised the club for carrying out the trade deals very professionally. According to Quinn Hughes' agent, Pat Brisson, the team handled the entire process with a level of professionalism and respect that's rare in situations like this.
Speaking on The Fan Hockey Show with Matt Marchese and Michael Futa, Brisson went out of his way to praise the Canucks organization for how they managed the trade that sent Hughes to the Minnesota Wild. Hughes’ agent has made it clear that the Canucks treated Hughes and his camp with respect throughout the entire process, starting from ownership all the way down through management.
Praising the club, Brisson stated, "It wasn't an easy decision, and I must admit the organization was very classy along the way, from Francesco Aquilini to Jim [Rutherford] and Patrick [Allvin].” He further said, "If the deal didn't make sense, if it was something that Quinn [Hughes] wasn't going to be happy with, I'm pretty sure [Canucks] would've moved into a different direction."
Brisson continued, "They're working with us, and quite frankly, if I can say this, if the deal didn't make sense, in other words, if it's something that Quinn wasn't going to be happy with, I'm pretty sure they would move in a different direction. They worked extremely well with us as if we had a no-play clause."
This gesture from an NHL club that technically had no obligation to give Hughes any say in where he ended up, they could have shipped the player anywhere and maximized their return without worrying about his preferences. Instead, they kept his preference into consideration and sent him where his talent would be nurtured further.
