President Donald Trump praises Florida Panthers during White House celebration of back-to-back Stanley Cup championships

The Florida Panthers returned to the White House on Thursday to be honored for their consecutive Stanley Cup victories, solidifying their place among the NHL’s elite. The team traveled to Washington for the ceremony before heading to Raleigh, North Carolina, for their upcoming matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes. The visit reflected the organization’s sustained success and commitment to excellence.

The White House ceremony praised the Panthers for their recent successes, such as their two wins of the Stanley Cup in a row, as well as being amongst the NHL’s best teams. As part of the celebration, the team gifted President Trump a Panthers jersey, a gold stick, and Stanley Cup rings from the last two seasons, then joined him in the Oval Office for photos.

Captain Matthew Tkachuk, owner Vincent Viola, and key players addressed the gathering, reflecting on the significance of their achievements. Speaking on behalf of the team, Tkachuk expressed pride in representing both the Florida Panthers and the United States.


“I just want to say on behalf of the organization and mainly the players, we’re so honored to be here,” Tkachuk said. “Being an American, I know I said it last year, nothing beats this. I’m so proud to be an American and so proud be here.”


President Donald Trump praised the Panthers for their “aura of winning,” pointing to a dominant postseason that resulted in consecutive Stanley Cup championships over the Edmonton Oilers.


“Not only did you live up to the sky-high expectations, you gave us perhaps the most dominant playoff run in NHL history,” Trump said.


He went on to recognize Conn Smythe Trophy winner Sam Bennett, along with contributions from Brad Marchand, Sam Reinhart, Aleksander Barkov, Tkachuk, defensemen Aaron Ekblad and Seth Jones, and goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. Trump also acknowledged the efforts of general manager Bill Zito, head coach Paul Maurice, and Viola, underscoring the organization’s sustained excellence.


Tkachuk, recovering from offseason surgery, could return against the Carolina Hurricanes, while Barkov, Marchand, Jones, and several other players remain sidelined. Viola also highlighted the team’s international presence, noting that ten Panthers players will represent their countries at the 2026 Winter Olympics.


Tkachuk described the Olympic opportunity “one of the highlights of my life,” and Viola appreciated the international presence of the team as a sign of the international reach of hockey. The visit to the White House cemented the Panthers’ place as one of the best in the NHL, on the back of their success and consistency.
