NHL Insider suggests Winnipeg Jets GM expecting to make big trade moves and roster changes this offseason
The Winnipeg Jets are expected to make big roster moves, pursue significant trades, and sign free agents this offseason, as the Jets' GM plans to make it one of the most aggressive teams in the NHL. The management has made this decision as they don't seem to be satisfied with the current performance and instead want to push the team closer to Stanley Cup competition.
It is to be noted that the Winnipeg Jets are led by excellent players such as Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor, and Connor Hellebuyck, giving the team a solid foundation to remain competitive. However, questions about depth, particularly at forward, have prompted expectations that changes are coming.
The Jets have been a competitive team, but this season, the Jets could not display an impressive performance with their brilliant lineup. As for the NHL Standings, in the Western Conference, the Jets currently sit in 11th position with a 30-30-12 record and 72 points till now.
Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff is eyeing an aggressive offseason, and they are aiming at a bold move in an attempt to bolster the team’s second line, with the organization targeting meaningful upgrades through trades and free agency. They are basically pursuing high-profile players, major trades, or bold free-agency moves, which could mean targeting top-six forwards, top-pair defensemen, or making a blockbuster trade involving significant assets.
As per the Hockey News, they are armed with roughly $31 million in available cap space, and the team is expected to push hard to balance a lineup that has leaned heavily on its top unit this season.
Meanwhile, according to NHL Insider David Pagnotta, the Jets are expected to be aggressive with big trade moves and roster changes. Speaking on The Sheet, Pagnotta suggested that the Jets could take “some big swings” to strengthen its second line, an area that has lagged the top unit to carry much of the offensive load this season.
He further suggested that the Jets still have the flexibility, though that figure will shrink after new deals for Perfetti and Rosen are finalized. Despite that, the organization is expected to retain enough room to pursue meaningful upgrades.
This significant roster move could mean difficult decisions regarding the current roster, as big trades often require moving key players, draft picks, or prospects, prompting the Jets management to explore multiple options so that they can prepare a roster and address the key areas that need improvement in the team.
Nevertheless, as the offseason approaches, the Winnipeg Jets will be closely monitored due to the growing expectations that the organization could be involved in some of the biggest moves this offseason.Stay updated with the latest IPL news on Times of India.
