NHL Injury Update: Winnipeg Jets Haydn Fleury discharged from hospital after suffering major upper-body injury
After sustaining a major injury on Tuesday, Winnipeg Jets defenseman was discharged from the hospital and has been able to return home, receiving proper medical care and treatment. This was announced by Jets head coach Scott Arniel that defenceman Haydn Fleury was able to return home from the hospital last night after getting stretchered off in Tuesday’s game against Vegas.
As per reports, Haydn Fleury was taken from the ice on a stretcher in the first period for the Winnipeg Jets in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights at Canada Life Centre on Tuesday. Actually, the defenseman slid hard into the end boards after being hit by Golden Knights forward Keegan Kolesar while attempting to clear the puck out of his defensive zone at 13:16.
Fleury's head and upper body made principal contact with the boards on the collision, following which he suffered a broken nose and bruised his back badly. However, fans are quite relieved to learn that the defenseman is out of potential danger.
Winnipeg Jets defenseman Haydn Fleury was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday after sustaining an upper-body injury during a match against Golden Knights. As per NHL, the incident occurred when Fleury slammed hard into the end boards after being hit by Golden Knights forward Keegan Kolesar.
Following the unfortunate incident, he was unable to get up off the ice and needed to be stretchered off. He went to the hospital with the Jets announcing Fleury was fully alert and able to move all extremities when leaving the arena.
Describing the situation, Winnipeg coach Scott Arniel said, "It’s unfortunate. I think it was far enough away, but just the way Fleury was crossing over, obviously, he totally lost his balance and then went in hard. ... You hate to see that stuff. Scary situation.”
Arniel also discussed Fleury’s injury, “Obviously, he’s got a lot of tests to go through. He does have a broken nose. There’s a few different things that happened off it. A little bit of everything. He obviously slammed his back, his neck, hit his head, and then obviously his nose," the head coach stated.
Meanwhile, Winnipeg Bureau Reporter Danielle Bain, posted on X/Twitter about his well-being and that he has safely been discharged from the hospital, “Some positive news for #NHLJets defenceman Haydn Fleury. Head Coach Scott Arniel says he was able to come home from the hospital last night. Broken nose and bruised back... will continue to be evaluated in terms of any concussion symptoms.”
As per reports, the 29-year-old is in his second season with the Jets. He has yet to record a point in 17 games this season. So far, Fleury has appeared in 324 career NHL games, scoring 10 goals with 44 points, split between the Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks, Seattle Kraken, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Jets.
The Winnipeg Jets have announced lately that they have recalled forward Danny Zhilkin from the Manitoba Moose and placed defenceman Haydn Fleury on injured reserve. Fans are now waiting in anticipation for his return, which has not been decided yet by the Jets management.
