McDonald's briefly renames two of its restaurants "McDavid's” to honor Connor McDavid

Connor McDavid has been universally hailed as a national hero after netting the overtime winner that clinched Canada's final triumph last week. Fans and pundits have lauded the Edmonton Oilers superstar, referring to the scene as a suitable and poetic end. As an honor for his feat, McDonald's has commemorated by briefly renaming two of its restaurants "McDavid's."

The signage at the front of the buildings and under the iconic golden arches has been changed to read "McDavid's" rather than the traditional "McDonald's." The nod can be found in two places—one in Edmonton, McDavid's current residence, and one in Newmarket, Ontario, where he was raised. Newmarket's mayor, John Taylor, also recognized McDavid's overtime goal and Canada's win on social media, celebrating the hometown hero's accomplishment further.

“I’ve never seen McDonald's react like this, get so excited about a hometown hero like this,” Newmarket franchise owner Peter Miller told Newmarket Today. “It’s a big deal for us. It’s a big deal for the town of Newmarket, and (we’ll) have a little fun I think with this.”

Added McDonald’s Canada: “Our local franchisees are committed to supporting the communities they serve, and that means celebrating their wins. Bringing home the win for Canada on the ice is a huge accomplishment, and as a fellow McD, we go big with our celebrations.”

Beyond renaming its restaurants, McDonald's went a step further in honoring Connor McDavid by temporarily rebranding its iconic Big Mac as the "Big Mac-David." Additionally, in a nod to McDavid’s jersey number, the fast-food chain adjusted the price of its small fries to $0.97. These creative tributes not only celebrate McDavid’s incredible achievement but also allow fans to share in the excitement in a fun and unique way. The promotions have quickly gained attention, further cementing McDavid’s status as a national icon following his game-winning overtime goal for Canada.
