The Team Canada phenom came through in the tournament's ultimate moment, hitting the championship goal just more than eight minutes into overtime to secure a dramatic 3-2 win over Team USA in Boston last month. His game-deciding goal not only entrenched Canada at the top of the tournament but reaffirmed his standing as one of the sport's all-time best.".
Instead of merely saluting McDavid as an exceptional athlete, McDonald's Canada went the extra mile by jokingly declaring him "Canadian of the Month" rather than the usual "Employee of the Month." The act was a tongue-in-cheek but apt tribute to a player who keeps his nation proud with his lightning-fast displays on the ice.
“Employee of the month? Nah. @cmcdavid97 is Canadian of the month," McDonald's wrote on Twitter. McDonald's Canada fulfilled its promise to rename a location in Edmonton if McDavid brought a Stanley Cup, following his game-winning goal against the USA in February.
The tribute to McDavid included new signage, promotional deals like $0.97 fries, and the "Big Mac-David" burger. McDavid's golden goal at the 4 Nations tournament drew comparisons to Sidney Crosby's 2010 Olympic winner, with Crosby acknowledging the moment.
