A Career Defined by Excellence
Fleury's 21-year career spanned generations of NHL talent. Drafted first overall by Pittsburgh in 2003, he backstopped the Penguins to two Stanley Cups. His move to Vegas in 2017 created a new chapter, leading an expansion team to the Final in their inaugural season.
The Flower's final seasons in Minnesota showed his enduring value. Even at 39, his athleticism was elite. Also his puck-handling skills remained elite too. More importantly, he became a mentor to younger players. This was sharing wisdom from his nearly 1,000 career games.
Thursday's game at Xcel Energy Center. This was turned into a tribute. Wild fans chanted "Fleury! Fleury!" as time expired. Teammates tapped their sticks on the ice in salute. Opponents from Vegas embraced the man who once carried their franchise.
