Connor Bedard, one of the most talented and popular players in the Chicago Blackhawks, was recently in the spotlight for a pretty confusing reason. The 19 year old was given a 10 minute misconduct penalty on Thursday’s match against the San Jose Sharks, which the Blackhawks ultimately lost. Connor Bedard looked pretty confused as he got the misconduct penalty, and fans are convinced that he gets treated “differently”.
Connor Bedard Receives A Penalty For “Abuse Of Officials” And Fans Are Convinced That He Is “Under A Microscope”
In videos that have now gone viral, Connor Bedard was sitting on the bench with a teammate when he was approached by an official who had a short chat with him. It is not really known what Connor Bedard spoke about with the official as the audio was inaudible.
Minutes later, Connor Bedard was given the 10 minute misconduct penalty for “abuse of officials”. The 19 year old player of the Chicago Blackhawks looked extremely confused as he was given the penalty and now fans are convinced that the NHL “has a problem” with Connor Bedard.
A fan took to X and wrote, “Yea he’s definitely under a microscope. Not fair I’d say”, while another fan wrote, “stg he gets treated sm diff than other rookies it’s weird”.
A third fan wrote, “The NHL hates their most talented players. They hold them to a different standard than all the regular NHL plugs.”
Another user wrote, “No other league lets the refs act like this”. However, some fans are also supporting the refs.
A fan wrote, “He says something as the ref skates away. His teammate shakes his head right after”, while another fan wrote,” lol Canada fans rushing to defend this kid when the bottom line is idk if I’ve ever seen a younger player who whines more to officials on the ice. Obviously this clip is not what got him the 10. And o btw Canada fans, this kid is not even the best Canadian under 20.”
In a post game interview, Connor Bedard opened up about it and said, “I don’t think it was too crazy, but he’s the ref, so he gets to make that call.
He added, “...You don’t really expect that, but it happens.”
