P.K. Subban discussed the intensity of hockey's 4 Nations Face-Off compared to the lackluster NBA All-Star Game

ESPN's Get Up episode featured an interview with National Hockey League analyst P.K Subban, who compared basketball and hockey, stating that face-off games are better than NBA all-star games. Subban compared the intense games in the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament to the NBA All-Star Games, stating that the former had not lived up to their potential.

“Hockey’s a different sport from the NBA. You can’t compare the cultures because of the way the game is played. You can step on an NBA floor and go through the motions. You can’t do that in hockey,” Subban said.

Subban criticized the NBA for underperforming in delivering audience thrills. He compared basketball to hockey, stating that hockey players are inspired by the person playing next to them, while basketball players are motivated by the person playing next to them.

“This was the most viewed game that we’ve had in years. And you see it, it’s because it’s not just based on the skill and talent. It’s based on the pride, honor, playing for the guy next to you. I got a question for the NBA players – what the hell are you playing for? What are you playing for!” Subban asked.

He argued that one must "fight sometimes" for their country, as fans paid to watch them compete. Subban compared basketball and hockey, stating that the NBA lacks this authenticity.
