Even coach Jeff Blashill skipped the morning skate, though he returned to the bench for the game. To reinforce the roster, Chicago activated Bedard from injured reserve and recalled defenseman Kevin Korchinski and goaltender Drew Commesso from the AHL. Korchinski saw his first action with the Blackhawks since April 15, while Commesso made his second NHL start.

Bedard’s impact on the ice is undeniable. Before his injury, the 20-year-old center had tallied 19 goals and 25 assists in just 31 games, placing him among the league leaders. “I feel good. Obviously it’s no fun kind of waiting and not being able to play. So it’s exciting,” Bedard said. His return coincides with a hot streak for the Blackhawks, who won four straight games heading into the Capitals matchup.

While fellow center Frank Nazar is back on the ice in practice after his own injury, there’s no confirmed timeline for his return. Bedard, meanwhile, is focused on keeping the team rolling. “It’s an exciting time and for us just to keep that rolling and obviously keep stacking wins because every game’s so important,” he said.
