“Worst habit I’ve seen”: Cam Newton blasts Shedeur Sanders after Browns rookie sinks to the bottom of depth chart

Shedeur Sanders’ NFL journey has hit its first major stumbling block. The Cleveland Browns rookie, once hyped as a potential future franchise quarterback, has officially been listed at the bottom of the team’s depth chart. While many fans argue that the league is working against the 2025 Golden Arm winner, Cam Newton believes Sanders’ struggles have more to do with personal habits than conspiracy.

Cam Newton highlights Shedeur Sanders’ worst habits under pressure

On his 4th & 1 podcast, Cam Newton gave a candid assessment of Shedeur Sanders’ preseason play. “The worst habit I’ve seen him have is he does not step up in the pocket,” Newton said, adding that the quarterback isn’t accustomed to playing behind a line that doesn’t dominate. He acknowledged that Cleveland’s backup offensive line gave Sanders little protection, but insisted the rookie still bore responsibility for holding the ball too long.


Beyond mechanics, Newton took issue with Sanders’ demeanor. “Shedeur Sanders had bad body language under the pretense of him knowing ‘come on, bruh.’ Four of those five guys protecting him is gone,” he explained, stressing how the young QB’s expressions and posture fueled critics who already view him as “diva-like.”

A rookie under the microscope with limited opportunities

For Sanders, the optics couldn’t be worse. His lackluster body language is now being used to validate concerns about his maturity, giving ammunition to those who doubt his NFL readiness. Although he’ll begin the season behind Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel, injuries and performance struggles could still open a door later in the year.
