Who is Roger Goodell’s wife? Inside the life of NFL Commissioner's wife former fox news broadcaster Jane Skinner
Behind the NFL’s most powerful man stands a woman who built her own name long before the spotlight followed her. Jane Skinner is not just NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s wife. She is a former national news anchor, a storyteller, and a quiet force inside the football world.
From cable news studios to league boardrooms, Skinner’s journey runs alongside the rise of the NFL itself. Their bond is rooted in patience, timing, and a shared passion for the game.
In an interview with the “Los Angeles Times” in Feb. 2022, Skinner said she was not ready to settle down then. “I was on a career path,” she said. She added that Goodell was “super patient” as they stayed in touch across states.
Skinner later moved to N.Y., and the couple married in 1997. Goodell became the NFL commissioner in August 2006. Since then, Skinner has stayed close to the league, attending drafts, Super Bowls, and charity events.
She once told “Fox News” during an NFL Honors media appearance that the draft is Goodell’s favourite event. “That’s when you see these young men’s dreams come true,” she said.
In 2001, they welcomed twin daughters. The family keeps their children away from public attention. Skinner believes that balance helped Goodell manage the pressure of leading a global sports league.
At Fox, she worked as a correspondent and weekend anchor. She co-hosted Happening Now with Jon Scott and appeared on Fox News Live and Sunday Best. On June 24, 2010, she announced her retirement from broadcast journalism on air. After leaving television, Skinner moved behind the camera. From 2019 to 2022, she produced projects that highlighted women working in the NFL.
One of them was A Lifetime of Sundays on NFL Network. The documentary profiled four female owners. In a 2019 Fox News interview, Skinner called them “good students of the game.” She also worked on the podcast and Peacock series Earnin’ It: The NFL’s Forward Progress.
Her father, Samuel K. Skinner, served as White House chief of staff under President George H. W. Bush. Growing up around politics and sports shaped her drive. Now, Jane Skinner remains a constant presence beside Roger Goodell, while continuing to tell stories that are brewing inside the league.
