Cam Newton is not holding back. The former NFL MVP and Heisman Trophy winner has called out Bill Belichick over what he sees as a major distraction looming over the University of North Carolina football program — and it’s not about playbooks or quarterback depth charts. It’s about Jordon Hudson.

While many have focused on the age gap between Belichick, 72, and Hudson, a former cheerleader and beauty pageant competitor, Newton has taken a different route. In a recent TikTok clip, he questioned how Belichick — a coach known for his "no distractions" mantra — has now ironically become the center of one. “I find it extremely interesting for a person who always led with this: 'Do not be a distraction,’” Newton said. “We talking more about Jordon Hudson than talking about who’s our starting quarterback. You can’t name me three players on North Carolina’s roster right now besides Jordon Hudson.”
It’s a sharp criticism, especially considering Belichick’s stature as a six-time Super Bowl-winning coach. After stepping down from the NFL, Belichick took the unexpected leap into college football with UNC earlier this year. What should’ve been a fresh chapter is instead making headlines for all the wrong reasons — and Newton believes it could cost the program in the long run.
He emphasized that such drama might scare away potential recruits. “Now you have that same situation with a 16-year-old that you’re trying to recruit. And you got to talk to his momma? This ain’t a good look,” Newton added, as quoted by the New York Post. This isn’t just a one-man concern. Belichick’s former players, including Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman, have voiced similar sentiments. Gronkowski, speaking with PEOPLE, echoed Newton’s point, admitting that “it feels like there are just distractions 24/7” surrounding North Carolina’s football scene. However, he remains hopeful. “Bill has to produce and I’m going to be tuning in and I want to see him win some games. Because if he wins some games, he’ll shut everyone up. And that would be fun to see, man.”Meanwhile, Belichick himself has downplayed Hudson’s involvement in his coaching duties. “It’s a personal relationship and she doesn’t have anything to do with UNC football,” he told ESPN. Still, the controversy hasn't cooled down. ESPN’s Pablo Torre recently reported concerns within Belichick’s family and even claimed UNC higher-ups wanted to ban Hudson from the football facilities — a claim later denied by the university. With the season on the horizon, all eyes are now on Belichick. The legendary coach may have built his reputation on discipline and focus, but if he wants to silence critics like Newton and Gronkowski, he’ll have to do what he’s always done best — win. Also Read: Travis Kelce says Jason ‘tricked’ him into talking about Taylor Swift on their New Heights podcast
