After facing streaming hiccups during Jake Paul's boxing victory over Mike Tyson, Netflix remains undeterred in proving its mettle in the sports streaming arena. Despite technical challenges, the platform aims to deliver a seamless viewing experience for its NFL debut on Christmas Day, showcasing games between the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Baltimore Ravens against the Houston Texans.

The Paul-Tyson bout drew an unprecedented 60 million viewers to Netflix, highlighting both the platform’s potential and its limitations. A staggering 90,000 streaming issues were reported at the peak, according to Downdetector.com, with viewers facing buffering and low-quality feeds. Elizabeth Stone, Netflix's chief technology officer, acknowledged the challenges in an internal memo, emphasizing the technical team’s focus on ensuring stability for the majority of viewers. While the experience of some members was less than ideal, she viewed the event as a "huge success" given its scale.
"We don't want to dismiss the poor experience of some members, and know we have room for improvement, but still consider this event a huge success."
With this experience under its belt, Netflix is now bracing for the NFL games, an event likely to attract millions of football fans. Adding to the complexity, Beyoncé is set to perform during halftime of the Ravens-Texans game, which could significantly increase server traffic.

Netflix’s content chief, Bela Bajaria, conveyed confidence in their readiness for the event, stating, “We feel very ready and excited for the NFL on Christmas.” Collaborating with CBS Sports for production, Netflix will oversee the critical streaming aspect, bearing the responsibility for how smoothly viewers experience the games.
