Trent Williams signs a three-year deal with 49ers worth $82.66 million

The San Francisco 49ers have signed Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams to a three-year contract, per team officials. This comes right after Williams' brother, Fred Williams, put out a video showing him back in the Bay Area after extending Brandon Aiyuk's contract. The announcement followed Williams' brother's recent departure from the team. Williams is the highest-paid offensive lineman in the league, though that may change as he's fallen to sixth in annual salary ($23 million) in the past year. He's been angling for a new deal since the likes of Tristan Wirfs, Penei Sewell, and Christian Darrisaw passed him up during the offseason. Sicher is Wirfs the best-compensated blocker, checking in at $28.1 million per year after signing a five-year extension for $140.6 million.

Trent Williams' three-year deal with 49ers

The 49ers inked All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams to a three-year, $82.66 million deal, with $48 million fully guaranteed and a $25.69 million signing bonus. The pact is expected to pay dividends for the 49ers as their regular-season opener against the New York Jets draws near.

Earlier, CBS Sports had reported this week a deal had been finalized for returning quarterback Kyle Williams to the Bay Area. This is great news since both sides have been in dispute all summer long. Previously, Williams was projected to miss some regular-season games, so his return was major positive news to take off both sides.

Williams was the NFL's highest-paid offensive lineman on a six-year, $138 million extension he signed with the Niners in 2021. His salaries of $22 million and $32 million for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, respectively, weren't guaranteed. Williams was recently ranked the seventh-best player in the league by his peers in an annual NFL Network survey, the highest spot ever earned by an offensive lineman. News of Williams' extension likely fixed that. The 49ers will have both Aiyuk and Williams for Sunday's matchup against the New York Jets.

The 49ers began training camp without Williams due to the lack of guaranteed money on his six-year, $138 million contract signed in March 2021. "It was something I knew could be a possibility, and I was hoping that he would be here," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after the team's first training camp practice on July 24. "But I knew it could be a possibility, and I felt pretty confident it'll all work out in the long run and he'll be here and we'll get on the same page with everything. But it's just one day of practice, and I think Trent will be all right missing a few practices.”
