It appears that the love story which gave birth to a thousand jokes is not as ‘precarious’ (pun intended) if the internet has its way. Rumors of a split between pop queen Taylor Swift and her new NFL bean Travis Kelce abound this week after an anonymous PR document published to Reddit suggested the two are on the verge of breaking up. But wait — it seems the whole thing was just one big prank!
What Actually Happened
The viral document, aptly titled "Comprehensive Media Plan for Travis Kelce's Public Relations Following Breakup With Taylor Swift", was a work of art. That was supposedly made public by Kelce's PR agency, Full Scope PR, and included a breakup statement on behalf of the reality star as well as interviews he'd do with ESPN and People Magazine. It also included an example of how he would elegantly broach the 'mutual decision to part ways' with Swift. And no drama is complete without a timeline, so the break-up announcement was scheduled for September 28 - because we all need a couple of days to let the media frenzy cool down.
However, the PR firm listed in the document as assisting Full Scope PR denied its involvement and called it a fake — prompting legal action on their behalf as well to unravel who unauthorized used their logo. The Reddit post was subsequently deleted and it transpires that the breakup rumor was a rather elaborate ruse.
The two have been linked as far back as September when Taylor Swift went to one of Travis Kelce's games playing for the Kansas City Chiefs. Their links to each other rapidly became a major hot topic as Swift made concert appearances at NFL games — which further enhanced media attention, and ratings and even hewed various merchandise goods. In the first place, Kelce’s celebrity is as strong now as it has ever been amid high-profile brand deals and acting roles alongside a hit podcast show with his brother. And while the rumors of fake, fans are eagerly waiting to see if Swift will show up for it as well when the Chiefs take on an opponent in their new NFL season.
