When it comes to sibling bonds in sports, few duos make people go crazy and amaze like Travis and Jason Kelce. While both have forged legendary careers in the NFL, it’s their playful chemistry and family-centric values that often steal the spotlight. Their latest New Heights podcast episode brought those dynamics to life, especially with the return of their beloved guest — Mama Donna Kelce.
Travis Kelce’s “Mommy” habit sparks hilarious family banter on New Heights Podcast
In what turned out to be a side-splitting segment, Travis Kelce’s unusual habit of calling his mother “Mommy” became a focal point. While it may seem odd for a 35-year-old man, for Travis, it’s a term loaded with affection and humor — even if his older brother Jason, 37, isn’t a fan.
“Travis, you’re a grown man, stop calling Mom ‘Mommy,’” Jason protested, only for Travis to gleefully sing-song “Mommy” in response, sparking laughs from both Donna and listeners alike. Clearly unfazed, Donna found her youngest son’s habit charming. “It’s kind of funny. I think it’s hysterical,” she said. “I take it as, I get a chuckle, because I know he’s doing it to make me laugh, you know?”
Jason, of course, couldn’t help but point out the irony in Travis’s claims of being the “first-born.” “You’re the second-born, Travis...” he corrected, to which Travis fired back with a playful jab: “You’re so much like [father] Ed it’s f***ing disgusting,” prompting Donna to jump in and gently defend Jason: “Nah, you have several redeeming qualities, Jason.”
The episode wasn’t just laughs and jabs. It soon transitioned into thoughtful reflections about motherhood, sibling dynamics, and raising boys close in age — a topic relevant to many parents tuning in. When asked about parenting two boys with just a couple of years between them, Donna offered insight from her experience.
“I don’t think you cultivate anything,” she shared. “The dynamic of the family is the dynamic of the family... I think some parents take too much credit for their children’s success, and for their failures.”
Travis credited his close bond with Jason to their upbringing: “I think that’s what you and Dad did a great job of, is that you forced Jason to be my friend... Playing with Jason was, ‘Hey Travis, you wanna go be the goalie outside?’ So I could just tip slapshots at you in enjoyment!”
Jason, however, emphasized the role of intentional parenting in building brotherly bonds. “If you want two brothers to love each other... make sure both kids feel they’re getting loved and attention in the same amounts — and encourage the brothers when they celebrate each other,” he noted. He praised their parents’ effort in ensuring both siblings supported each other’s dreams, recalling how their family would attend each other's games, fostering unity rather than rivalry.
Through humor and heart, the Kelce family once again reminded listeners that behind their gridiron glory lies an even stronger foundation — a home built on laughter, love, and just the right amount of sibling teasing.
