To stir the pot further, former teammate Antonio Brown took to Twitter with a sharp critique, though he misquoted Brady’s $375 million deal. Tom Brady gets DESTROYED! Fans say he SUCKED BAD in Fox debut calling Cowboys vs Browns game!
Tom Brady's debut as a broadcaster with Fox was one of the highlights fans were looking forward to in Week 1, but it didn't quite live up to the buzz. Many were excited to see Brady break down the game, especially since he was given a big matchup for his first appearance: the Dallas Cowboys vs. Cleveland Browns. However,
NFL fans weren't entirely convinced by Brady's performance in the broadcasting booth. Adding to the criticism, his former teammate Antonio Brown took to Twitter to express his disapproval, taking shots at Brady's debut with a sharp tweet:
"Maybe someone should have listened to Tom Brady actually say words before dropping $300 million on him." (via Sportskeeda)
Although Brown misquoted Brady's broadcasting salary—Tom signed a 10-year, $375 million deal—the sentiment he expressed mirrored the disappointment felt by many fans that night. It’s no secret that Antonio Brown and Tom Brady haven’t been getting along. Brown has taken shots at Brady in the past, even poking fun at his very public divorce from Gisele Bündchen. But earlier this year, in an unexpected twist, Brown reached out with an apology to Brady, saying:
"It’s been a minute. We’ll rekindle that when it’s time. But we can both agree we may have treated each other in not the best way. But as men we can attest to what was going well and hash it out. Too many jokes, we don’t want to joke about his wife. I made a joke about it but let’s be for real.”
Could Tom Brady's involvement with the Raiders have influenced his debut with Fox?
Before gearing up for the Cowboys-Browns game, Tom Brady received some major news. His long-anticipated deal to buy a stake in the Raiders has been slowly progressing, and now the
NFL has reportedly given Brady a set of guidelines outlining what’s allowed and what’s not if he becomes an NFL owner.
“NFL says restrictions on Tom Brady start immediately because his potential transaction to purchase part of the Raiders is pending," as per the report. "He’s not permitted to attend broadcast production meetings (in-person or virtually) and may not have access to team facilities or players and coaching personnel. Fox staff is not subject to these limitations. “He may broadcast Raiders games. He also has to abide by the league constitution and bylaws that prohibit public criticism of officials and other clubs.”
