Fox's NFL coverage of the Washington Commanders vs. New York Giants game on Sunday, September 7, 2025, included Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski who gave fans a nice back-and-forth. While Gronkowski joined the pregame desk with Howie Long, Terry Bradshaw, Michael Strahan, and Jay Glazer for his second season as an analyst, Brady was in the broadcast booth.
Tom Brady teases Rob Gronkowski for showing up on time in Fox NFL Sunday debut
When the cameras rolled, Tom Brady quickly joked about his longtime teammate’s reputation for being late. “I’m glad Gronk was on time today,” Brady said with a smile. “Usually the first few weeks of the season are a little off, but I’m glad he was here early.” The NFL on Fox Instagram page later shared the clip, teasing, “It’s only Week 1 and Tom Brady is already throwing jabs at Gronk.”
But Rob Gronkowski didn’t let the dig slide. He fired right back on-air: “Always coming after me,” Rob Gronkowski said, making sure the audience knew he wasn’t going to stay quiet. The moment set off laughs at the Fox studio and instantly reminded fans of their years of locker room banter in New England.
Rob Gronkowski claps back at Tom Brady with playful warning for week 2 broadcast
Rob Gronkowski, who just stepped into a full-time role on Fox NFL Sunday this season, wasn’t shy about clapping back at his old quarterback. After the show aired, Gronk even jumped into the comments section of Fox’s post to send Brady a playful warning. “I am coming for you next week Tommy Boy, so watch out,” Gronk wrote.

Latest update on the ex-Colorado Buffaloes standout The playful exchange carried extra weight because this was Gronkowski’s very first regular appearance since Jimmy Johnson retired in March 2024, ending a 30-year run on the network. Fox officially named Gronk as Johnson’s replacement in August, and his debut came on September 7, 2025, just before kickoff in Washington.
Tom Brady, of course, knows Gronk’s reputation well. Over the years, Gronkowski has poked fun at Brady about his strict diet, age, and serious attitude. On Fox’s desk earlier this year, Gronk even joked,
“You’re 12 years older than me and you’re kinda looking younger than me. Whatever you’re doing is working.”So this time, Tom Brady made sure to flip the script and keep the humor alive. He told Gronk on-air, “You took a lot of shots at me over the years. I’m coming back.” Fans online loved the exchange, especially since it showed their bond is still strong even after both retired from the NFL.
Looking ahead, Fox NFL Sunday will roll out five Week 2 games on September 14, 2025. With Rob Gronkowski already promising to keep Brady on his toes, the only question left for fans is whether Rob Gronkowski will arrive on time again, or if Tom Brady will get the last laugh.
