Texas QB Arch Manning undergoes minor foot surgery ahead of spring football

Texas quarterback Arch Manning has undergone a minor foot surgery ahead of the 2026 offseason. A move described as a “preventative procedure” to address a previous injury. While the news raised brief concern among Longhorns fans, early reports suggest there is no major threat to Manning’s availability for the upcoming season.

According to multiple reports, the 21-year-old will be limited during parts of the offseason program but is expected to return in time for spring football. The surgery was planned in advance and was not linked to any setback suffered during the 2025 campaign. For Texas, the timing is important. The Longhorns are entering a crucial year with playoff expectations once again and Manning is central to those plans.

Why was this surgery necessary?

Manning did not miss any games during the 2025 season and started all 13 games for Texas in his first year as the full-time starter. While it remains unclear exactly when the foot issue began, it never forced him out of action.



In fact, Manning remained an active runner throughout the year. He rushed for 399 yards and 10 touchdowns, often using his legs as a weapon in key moments. That workload likely played a role in the decision to address the injury early in the offseason.

Texas officials have called the surgery minor and precautionary. The plan is to ease Manning back during winter workouts and have him fully ready for spring practice.

A season that ended on a high note

Manning’s 2025 season was a story of steady growth. He started the year with some inconsistency as Texas opened 3-2, completing 60 percent of his passes with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions in his first five games.

His play got a lot better as the season went on. Manning passed for 2,012 yards, 15 touchdowns, and only two interceptions in the last eight games. This showed that he was making better decisions and was more comfortable with the scheme.



He threw for 3,163 yards, threw 26 touchdown passes, and ran for 10 touchdowns. His biggest game was in the Citrus Bowl versus Michigan, where he was voted MVP after a strong performance in a 41-27 triumph.

Texas finished the year with a record of 10-3, missing out on the College Football Playoff but ending on a high note.

The Longhorns enter 2026 with a loaded roster and one of the nation’s top transfer classes. Head coach Steve Sarkisian has surrounded Manning with more talent, including major additions at wide receiver and running back.

Arch Manning is already being mentioned as a possible Heisman contender next season. His health will be closely monitored, but early signs suggest this surgery is simply part of long-term planning.
