Patrick Mahomes' 29th year could be even more special if he wins his third consecutive Super Bowl title. Only two teams have achieved three consecutive Super Bowl victories: the Miami Dolphins (1971-73) and the New England Patriots (2016-18). However, no team has won three Super Bowls in a row.
To win their third consecutive Super Bowl, the Chiefs must improve their ball security. In their first two games, Mahomes has thrown as many interceptions as touchdowns. They only defeated the Bengals thanks to Harrison Butker's 51-yard field goal at the end of the game.
After the game, Mahomes stated, “I thought we did a lot of good things, but obviously the three turnovers just can't happen. The first interception, I've got to find the backside linebacker. I mean, the kid made a great play on the second pick. I'm glad we played not as clean as we want to and still found a way to win... but obviously we've got to clean up a lot of stuff on offense as we go forward.”
Mahomes praised the Bengals' defensive strategy against Travis Kelce, who was held to only 18 yards. He explained that the Bengals consistently assigned two defenders to Kelce, which forced him to target other receivers.
The Chiefs will travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons next Sunday night.
