Super Bowl LX updates: Record audience possible as Big Data transforms Super Bowl ratings
Super Bowl LX may not have the matchup many people expected before the season, and the Kansas City Chiefs are not part of the game after appearing in the last three. Still, the NFL believes another huge TV audience is very possible. Viewership has grown in each of the last three years, helped by changes in how ratings are counted. Nielsen now includes Big Data from streaming platforms, which captures millions of viewers who were missed earlier. According to the Los Angeles Times, this shift has lifted NFL numbers across the season. History also helps. When the New England Patriots last faced the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl in 2015, the game crossed 114 million viewers on NBC, showing that familiar teams can still pull in massive attention.
Recent Super Bowls have continued to grow, even when the matchup was not seen as ideal. In 2025, the Chiefs and Eagles drew about 127.7 million viewers across Fox and Tubi.
A year earlier, Chiefs versus 49ers crossed 123 million on CBS and Nickelodeon. These jumps matter.
Big Data from streaming services is now part of Nielsen’s official count, which means more viewers are finally being measured. The Los Angeles Times reported that this change alone has helped the league reach new highs.
NBC’s broadcast team will also play a major role in how the game feels at home. This will be the first Super Bowl play-by-play call for Mike Tirico. Behind the scenes, Rob Hyland will oversee the entire production for the first time.
According to Variety, NBC plans to use around 80 cameras and share live weather data during the game. Wind, temperature, and field conditions will all be shown clearly, especially during kicks and long passes.
Questions have been raised about an alternative halftime show promoted by Turning Point USA. NBCUniversal advertising executive Mark Marshall addressed this directly.
He told the Los Angeles Times the company does not expect the alternative show to affect Super Bowl ratings in any noticeable way. NBC remains confident that viewers will stay locked into the main broadcast.
NBC will feature two female sideline reporters on Super Bowl Sunday. Melissa Stark returns for her second Super Bowl, while Kaylee Hartung makes her debut.
Hartung told the New York Post that covering the Super Bowl feels like a lifelong dream.
The pregame show will include Kyle Shanahan and Fred Warner, along with Aaron Donald and Cameron Heyward, as reported by the San Jose Mercury News. Parts of the show will air from Alcatraz Island.
