Super Bowl LX update: Authorities ramp up enforcement ahead of Patriots vs. Seahawks watch parties

As Super Bowl LX approaches, law enforcement agencies across the United States are urging fans to enjoy the big game responsibly while stepping up enforcement ahead of watch parties and celebrations. With millions expected to tune in for the Patriots vs. Seahawks matchup at Levi's Stadium on Sunday, officials are preparing for higher traffic, crowded bars and fan gatherings and are warning that unsafe behaviour will not be tolerated.

Police departments from Seattle to New England have launched public safety campaigns focusing on sober celebrations, particularly around DUI (driving under the influence) enforcement. In Seattle, the Police Department has shared guidelines for fans, urging them to use designated drivers or rideshare services, and not to repeat dangerous antics from past events, such as climbing on historic structures during celebrations. Officers say extra DUI patrols will be active throughout Super Bowl Sunday to keep roads safe and reduce impaired driving incidents.

Heavy police presence across regions

In Massachusetts and neighbouring states, authorities are also preparing for crowds at popular nightlife spots and watch parties. Boston police have warned fans about the dangers of drink spiking where colourless, odourless drugs may be secretly added to beverages and have announced parking and pedestrian restrictions in busy neighbourhoods to reduce congestion and improve safety. Bars in some areas will stop admitting new patrons after the third quarter to curb post-game crowd surges and help control traffic flow around key entertainment districts.



In New Hampshire, state highway safety officials are reminding fans to report suspected impaired drivers to emergency services. Last year, 25 people were arrested on impaired driving-related charges during the Super Bowl weekend, prompting officials to place greater emphasis on sober driving and community safety ahead of this year’s event.

DUI enforcement efforts strengthen further

Even in areas not directly hosting Super Bowl events, police are taking action. Traffic and highway patrol units in Texas and California are intensifying saturation patrols and DUI checkpoints throughout Sunday to deter and catch drivers under the influence. Officers emphasise that impaired driving doesn’t always mean exceeding the legal alcohol limit; drivers showing signs of impairment can be arrested even if they are under the limit. Local departments have pointed to past Super Bowl weekends where hundreds of DUI arrests and traffic citations were made, reinforcing the need for vigilance and responsible planning.



As the nation gears up for one of its biggest sporting events of the year, authorities stress that Super Bowl Sunday should be about fun and shared moments not dangerous decisions. Fans are encouraged to plan ahead, arrange sober rides, and look out for one another before and after the Patriots vs. Seahawks showdown on Sunday.
