As the Kansas City Chiefs process their 40-22 defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, all eyes are on Travis Kelce and his next career move. Travis Kelce Reportedly Made Retirement Call Before Chiefs’ Super Bowl Loss

Travis Kelce, who has etched his name in Chiefs history with three Super Bowl rings and the franchise’s all-time touchdown record, has not made an official decision yet. However, sources close to the situation suggest that his initial plan was to walk away from the game on a high note had Kansas City secured an unprecedented threepeat.

"He was hoping he'd end his career on a high," a source disclosed to Us Weekly. "Had the Chiefs won the Super Bowl, he would have called it a career. Instead, he's now reconsidering what he wants moving forward. He may come back next season."

This revelation has left fans in suspense, as Kelce remains under contract with the Chiefs through the 2025 season. His previous statements about playing for at least three more years during a Super Bowl media session added to the uncertainty, indicating that, regardless of the outcome in New Orleans, he was considering extending his career.

While Kelce remains undecided, the Chiefs are not leaving the matter open-ended. The organization has reportedly set a firm deadline of March 14 for the star tight end to make up his mind. This timing is critical, as Kelce is due to receive an $11.5 million roster bonus on March 15. If he chooses to retire before then, the Chiefs could reallocate those funds strategically.

For now, the All-Pro tight end has stepped away from the spotlight, enjoying some downtime with his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, following a whirlwind NFL season and her ongoing Eras Tour. But the pressure to decide looms large, with fans, teammates, and the Chiefs organization awaiting clarity on his future.

Kelce recently broke his silence on the topic during an episode of his New Heights podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce. Despite the swirling speculation, he made it clear that he is in no rush to make a final call.

"I know everybody wants to know whether I am playing next year and right now I am just kicking everything down the road," Kelce stated. "I am kicking every can I can down the road. I am not making any crazy decisions but right now, the biggest thing is just being there for my teammates and being there for my coaches, understanding there's a lot that goes into this thing. I've been fortunate over the past five, six years, I've played more football than anybody."

These remarks suggest that Kelce is weighing his options carefully, mindful of the physical and mental toll the game has taken on him. Despite his desire to continue playing, the possibility of retirement remains very real.

What’s Next for Kelce and the Chiefs?

The Kansas City Chiefs, fresh off their latest Super Bowl appearance, now face an offseason of uncertainty. If Kelce does decide to retire, his departure would leave a massive void in the team’s offensive scheme, forcing the front office to reevaluate their strategy moving forward.

For now, the decision rests solely in Kelce’s hands. Whether he chooses to extend his already illustrious career or walks away as one of the greatest tight ends of all time, his impact on the game and the Chiefs’ dynasty is undeniable. As the March 14 deadline approaches, the football world waits to see what the legendary tight end will do next.
