Kendrick Lamar and SZA Set to Light Up Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show

SZA, celebrated for her distinctive artistry, has amassed an impressive career with accolades including Best Progressive R&B Album and Best R&B Song in 2023. Together, Lamar and SZA have previously struck gold with their joint hit "All the Stars," which earned them an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song in 2019. Their on-stage chemistry and unmatched musical synergy make them an ideal pairing for this year’s grand halftime event.

In a 30-second teaser released by the NFL, Kendrick Lamar is seen taking a phone call on a sprawling football field, commenting that the stage is "a lot bigger than what people think." The moment is hilariously interrupted as SZA sneaks up behind him, playfully dunking him with a blue energy drink. Lamar’s cryptic mention of a guest performer hints at the surprises that fans can expect during their halftime spectacle.

This announcement could also be a timely promotion for Lamar and SZA’s upcoming 2025 Grand National Tour. Kicking off in Minnesota on April 19, the 19-date stadium trek will take them to major cities like Atlanta, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Detroit, and Los Angeles, before concluding in Washington, D.C., on June 18.

This marks Lamar’s second time taking the Super Bowl stage, following his memorable 2022 halftime performance alongside Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and 50 Cent. Known for his artistry and lyrical depth, Lamar has solidified his place as a cultural icon. Earlier this year, he triumphed in a publicized musical rivalry with Drake, delivering one of 2024’s most acclaimed hits, "Not Like Us."
