Sherrone Moore On Texas Loss, What Needs To Change, Quarterback Situation | Michigan Football
Michigan quarterback Jack Tuttle was expected to be a top contender for the starting job this season, but an injury has altered those plans, putting Davis Warren in the spotlight as QB1. Tuttle, who tore the top part of his UCL in his right elbow last season, missed spring practices and has been working hard to recover since fall camp began. Although he was inactive in Week 1, he made his return against Texas. Now, head coach Sherrone Moore shares the latest update on Tuttle’s injury and what it means for his future with the team.

At 25 years old, Tuttle is in his seventh college season and second with Michigan. Last year, he backed up J.J. McCarthy, showing efficiency with 15 completions on 17 attempts for 130 yards and a touchdown.
Before coming to Michigan, Tuttle played at Indiana, where he threw for 901 yards, five touchdowns, and six interceptions.
At Big Ten Media Day in July, Moore praised Tuttle’s skills, saying, “He’s been great,” Moore said. “He’s been accurate. He’s been throwing it hard. Physical. Fast. And he looks good. Jack’s had the unfortunate favor of being behind Michael Penix Jr. and J.J. McCarthy. He’s excited, to say the least. Watching him compete and we’re ready to see what happens.”
It’s unclear where Tuttle fits into the starting quarterback mix and whether he’ll have a chance to play in upcoming games. After two games, Davis Warren has thrown for 322 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions on 37-of-58 passing. If Tuttle is healthy, he could provide valuable competition for Warren in practice. With Michigan heavily favored by over three touchdowns against their next opponent, Arkansas State, a healthy Tuttle might get an opportunity to play if Michigan builds a comfortable lead.
