He took an elevator, killed four people, and carried a gun. But police claim he was attempting to get to the NFL headquarters in that same building right now. Using the incorrect elevator, he ended up on a different floor. That error altered everything. New Yorkers have been shaken by the shooting, and law authorities are still trying to figure out his motivation and what went wrong.

Shane Tamura tried to reach NFL offices but ended up elsewhere

The shooter has been named as Shane Tamura, 27, of Las Vegas. Carrying a rifle, he crossed the country, opened fire at 6:30 p. m. on Monday, July 28, 2025, when he entered the Park Avenue building. According to Mayor Eric Adams, Shane Tamura was aiming for the NFL headquarters inside the building, but he took the wrong elevator.
“It appears as though he was going after employees at the NFL… instead, it took him to Rudin Management,” Mayor Adams said during a press briefing on Tuesday morning. Tamura reached the 33rd floor, where he killed another person before turning the gun on himself.
A three-page note was found in his bag. It blamed the NFL for giving him CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy), a brain disease linked to repeated head injuries. He asked doctors to study his brain after his death. Police also found ammunition, weapons, and mental health pills in his car, which was parked nearby.

Officer Didarul Islam, Wesley LePatner, and others were victims

The shooting killed NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, 36, who was working a private security job at the time. He was in uniform and died at the scene. He lived in the Bronx and leaves behind a pregnant wife and two children.Other victims included Wesley LePatner, a top executive at Blackstone, and Aland Etienne, a security guard. A Rudin Management worker also died. One NFL employee was hurt but survived.People working inside the building blocked doors with furniture. Photos later showed chairs and couches pushed against office doors. The NFL later asked workers to stay home. The NYPD and FBI are still investigating.
