The screenshots shows that Gardner is replying to a fan who had lost $10,000 after betting on the Jets when the Jets lost the match. Gardner expressed no regard for the fan and abused him. The post created a storm, having attracted over 655,000 views. Fans and commentators are shocked at the abuses hurled by Gardner, given he plays a very public role as an emerging young star of the NFL.

Gardner's Remorse and Public Apology

Gardner came out on social media to apologize over his message after the leaked DM. The Jets cornerback publicly came out and stated that his response was not proper and apologized. "I know better," he said. He admitted to succumbing to his feelings but said the post did not represent him at his best or embody him and how he feels about his fans.
