Samson Nacua arrest explained: Police reveal major twist in Puka Nacua’s brother’s case

The arrest of Samson Nacua, who is the older brother of Puka Nacua, took an unexpected turn this week after police revealed a crucial detail that changed the direction of the case. What initially appeared to be a vehicle theft incident has now been described as a case of mistaken identity one that may never reach court.

What led to Samson Nacua’s arrest

Samson Nacua was arrested in December in West Hollywood along with another man, Trey Rose, after authorities reported that an SUV had been taken without the owner’s consent. The vehicle belonged to Adou Thiero, a rookie with the Los Angeles Lakers. At the time, the incident raised eyebrows due to Samson’s family ties and his own professional football background.


However, investigators from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department later discovered that the situation was far from intentional. According to police, Samson believed the SUV was owned by his brother Puka, as it was the same make and model and only a few years different from the Rams star’s vehicle.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that during the investigation, it became clear that the vehicle’s similarity played a major role in the confusion. Officers stated that there was no evidence of force or premeditation. Once the misunderstanding was established, the tone of the case shifted quickly.

The biggest turning point came when Thiero decided not to press charges. With the vehicle owner declining prosecution, the sheriff’s department formally requested the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office to reject the case. As a result, Samson Nacua is unlikely to face criminal charges related to the arrest.

Samson Nacua’s football journey

Samson Nacua played college football at Utah and BYU, the same programs where Puka also made his name. While Puka has emerged as one of the NFL’s brightest young stars with the Los Angeles Rams, Samson has spent time bouncing between NFL training camps and spring leagues.



Most recently, he was drafted by the Birmingham Stallions in the United Football League. His UFL stint has not been without controversy, including a one-game suspension earlier this year following an on-field incident involving a fan.

While his brother’s arrest briefly made headlines, Puka Nacua continues to shine on the field. The Rams wide receiver is preparing for a crucial NFC Divisional Round matchup against the Chicago Bears. Puka finished the regular season with elite numbers and is considered a strong contender for Offensive Player of the Year honors.

In the end, what looked like a serious legal issue for the Nacua family now appears to be an unfortunate mistake that got resolved quietly as the spotlight shifts back to football.
