A field goal when it matters most. A 42-yard field goal in overtime sealed a crucial playoff victory for the Los Angeles Rams over the Chicago Bears. Their standout kicker, Harrison Mevis, surprised everyone not only on the gridiron but also off it. In a post-game interview, he reportedly spoke in Russian.
MLFootball shared a clip of his interview with the caption: “HARRIS MEVIS STARTED SPEAKING IN RUSSIAN IN HIS POST-GAME INTERVIEW AFTER THE GAME-WINNING FIELD GOAL. [three skull emojis] ALL-TIME GREAT MOMENT.”
A Russian-sounding audio clip played when Harrison Mevis answered reporter Melissa Stark’s question
Reporter Melissa Stark interviewed Matthew Stafford and Mevis together. Max Winters of the Daily Mail reported that when Stark asked Mevis her first question, an audio clip from what seemed to be a different program began to play.
Many on social media suggested that it sounded like Russian. It appeared that Mevis, unaware of the audio difficulties, continued to answer unperturbed. However, cybercitizens reacted to this audio glitch in abundance. Particularly through classic comparisons.
NBC supposedly scrambled the audio
A user asked X’s AI, Grok: “@grok what did he say,” Grok replied: “He didn’t actually speak Russian—it was NBC scrambling the audio over what they thought was a swear word (“---”). In uncensored clips, he seems to say something like “that [---] was crazy” but switches to “----” afterward. Hilarious moment!”
Another user corrected the language, saying, “It’s Polish.
He’s from Warsaw.” Mevis attended Warsaw Community High School in Warsaw, Indiana.
A third user commented, “The interview was taped during commercial break. At least the Melissa interviews. Not sure about Kaylee’s interview. Player said [----]. Apparently they didn’t want that on air so they attempted to cover it up when they ran it back on tape.”
Cybercitizen compares Harrison Mevis to Steve Carell’s news anchor character in Bruce Almighty
Among the comments on Mevis’ audio clip, one was funny and took us back to the early 2000s, when Jim Carrey played Bruce Nolan in the 2003 comedy drama film
Bruce Almighty.Nolan is granted boundless powers by God [played by Morgan Freeman] to control the world as he likes. In one scene, he controls news anchor Evan Baxter [played by Steve Carell] during a live broadcast.
The user who commented on Rams kicker Harrison Mevis’ audio shared Baxter’s audio clip from the movie and captioned it: “Mevis be like…”
Baxter says, “I’m sorry we seem to be having some technical difficulties… In other news…” Then he starts uttering nonsensical gibberish.
