Las Vegas Raiders face tough challenges with key players out against Browns

Davante Adams sustained a hamstring injury during practice on Thursday, leaving his status uncertain. Coach Pierce indicated that Adams would be day-to-day but confirmed he would not play this weekend. Meanwhile, Maxx Crosby is grappling with a high ankle sprain, which has kept him off the practice field on both Wednesday and Thursday. This marks a significant absence for Crosby, who has been a consistent presence on the field since being drafted by the Raiders in 2019, playing in 86 consecutive games.

Crosby’s impact on the Raiders' defense has been profound; he has recorded three sacks and five tackles for loss this season. His recent performance against the Carolina Panthers was hindered by the ankle sprain, and despite his efforts, he expressed frustration over his inability to contribute effectively. “I play one way and when you’re not able to do certain things, it’s tough,” he noted.

In addition to Adams and Crosby, tight end Michael Mayer will also be absent due to personal reasons. The Raiders are already facing challenges with several key players sidelined, including pass rusher Malcolm Koonce and safety Marcus Epps, both out for the season due to knee injuries. Linebacker Divine Deablo is also expected to miss the game due to an oblique injury, prompting the team to start Luke Masterson in his stead last week.

If Crosby is unable to take the field, last year’s first-round draft pick Tyree Wilson will step in as his replacement. Regarding Adams’ recovery timeline, Coach Pierce stated, “I don’t know. I just know he’s out for this week,” adding to the uncertainty surrounding the team’s lineup. With these key players sidelined, the Raiders face an uphill battle against the Browns, testing their depth and resilience as the season progresses.
