A surprising player trade has just taken place in the NFL, and fans are still trying to process the big move. The Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers swapped some of their top stars in a deal that includes not only key players but also draft picks and new contracts. One All-Pro defender is heading back to his first team, while another joins a strong defensive group. A well-known tight end is also part of this unexpected exchange. Here’s what really happened and how it may change both teams.

Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith head to the Pittsburgh Steelers in surprise move

The Miami Dolphins traded Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith and three-time All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey - but they also included a seventh-round pick in the 2027 NFL draft. That pick was added to the Miami Dolphins as well as Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith. In return, the Miami Dolphins got Minkah Fitzpatrick, a three time Pro Bowler at safety as well as a fifth-round pick in the 2027 NFL draft as reported via ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Jalen Ramsey, 29, confirmed the news himself on X with the post, “Break my own news! #HereWeGo @steelers.” He will now earn $26.6 million this season after a $1.5 million pay raise. Jonnu Smith, who led the Miami Dolphins in catches last season and made the Pro Bowl, signed a $12 million contract extension for one year.
Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith has worked with Jonnu Smith in the past and was the one who pushed for the trade.

Minkah Fitzpatrick returns to Miami Dolphins as part of high-profile swap

Minkah Fitzpatrick, who started his NFL career with the Miami Dolphins in 2018, has opted to reunite with Miami Dolphins at some point in his career. The Miami Dolphins drafted Minkah Fitzpatrick with the 11th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, and he was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019. Minkah Fitzpatrick proved to be elite after he joined the Pittsburgh Steelers and should help the Miami Dolphins improve their defense again.
With Jalen Ramsey joining Darius Slay Jr. and Joey Porter Jr. in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ secondary, now has one of the strongest defensive backfields in the NFL. This trade is part of a busy offseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have already added Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf, while parting ways with George Pickens. Also Read: NFL Rumors: Steelers Ready To Dump Aaron Rodgers If He Flops, Claims James Harrison
