Winter storms may have blanketed much of the Midwest, but inside her backyard, Brittany Mahomes turned snow days into something far more memorable. Over several freezing days, the mom of three transformed a viral social media idea into a hands-on family project that quickly became a lesson in patience, creativity, and humor.
What started as a simple Instagram inspiration evolved into a full-scale rainbow igloo built block by block with her children.
Brittany Mahomes took on a snowy challenge few parents finish
Sharing the journey online, Brittany Mahomes offered a candid look at how quickly enthusiasm can meet reality. In the video, Brittany joked, “When you see this idea on instagram and think it's a good idea to do, it's really important.... that you should probably think again😂.”
The process demanded time, planning, and persistence. Dozens of aluminum trays filled with dyed water were left outside to freeze, only to be refilled and frozen again before construction could even begin.Once the ice blocks were ready, the entire Mahomes household joined in.
Brittany explained the trial-and-error nature of the build, saying, “Had to refill them and refreeze them... so now starting to build the igloo.” Over two days, the structure took shape as water was used to fuse the frozen blocks together. By the end, the igloo stood tall enough for Sterling and Bronze to walk inside and pose proudly. The finished result came with equal parts satisfaction and relief.
Brittany summed it up with her trademark humor, writing, “Just a couple rookies trying to show you the whole process of how to build an igloo…😂😅 would say we will do better next time but there will never be a next time🙂.” Her husband,
Patrick Mahomes, quickly chimed in with praise, calling her the “Best mom out there!! ❤️❤️.”
Even though Brittany's version was based on a bigger Minnesota-made rainbow igloo that went viral online, it had its own magic. It became more than just a winter craft; it became something that people did together that brought them together through hard work, laughter, and family ties.
The Mahomes family got more than just cold weather from the snowstorm. It made a memory that will last long after the ice melts.
