On Monday, at the NFL owners' meeting in Phoenix, head coach Sean McVay addressed two issues. At first, he showed his trust in Nacua and also opened the door on the quarterback situation. "I trust his heart. I trust the human being. And I want to be able to put my arm around him. One of the most important things you can do as a coach is help guys grow," McVay said at the owners meeting.


That confirms Nacua is still part of long-term plans. His numbers and stunning performance justify it. He led the NFL with 129 receptions last season and produced 1,715 yards and 10 touchdowns. Still, contract timing may shift due to injuries and recent off-field concerns.


But here is the main problem. The Rams do not have a solid backup QB. Matthew Stafford is 38 and has dealt with injuries. If he misses games, the drop-off could be huge. Right now, the depth chart does not offer confidence.

More importantly, McVay confirmed the interest publicly. "Hey, I'd love to have Jimmy Garoppolo back with us," McVay said, per the team's website. "That's a big deal for us. He's earned the right to be able to take his time and do whatever he wants. Is there an opportunity to explore, if it's not Jimmy, (like) Kirk Cousins? Of course," he said at the same media session.

That matches recent reports that the Rams are exploring Cousins as a backup option if other plans fail. Now connect everything. Nacua keeps the offense explosive. But without a dependable backup QB, that production risks going to waste if Stafford misses time. Cousins solves that gap with familiarity and experience.
