NFL Trade Rumors: Myles Garrett sparks fierce debate as analysts clash over Browns future
Debate is growing over whether the Cleveland Browns should trade star pass rusher Myles Garrett after a disappointing season. Analyst Mike Tannenbaum suggests moving him for draft picks and talent, while insider Chris Oldach insists a deal won’t happen. Garrett’s Defensive Player of the Year performance highlights his value, leaving Cleveland to balance rebuilding needs with keeping a franchise cornerstone.
The Cleveland Browns have a big decision to make this offseason about their best defender, Myles Garrett. After a disappointing 5–12 campaign, questions about the franchise’s direction have intensified. While Garrett remains the team’s brightest star, some analysts argue Cleveland should consider trading him to accelerate a rebuild. Others insist moving a generational talent would be unthinkable. The debate gained momentum after contrasting views surfaced on ESPN Radio, reflecting the broader divide among fans and league observers. Garrett’s elite production and leadership make him the face of the defense, yet Cleveland’s struggles have fueled speculation about whether maximizing trade value could reshape the roster more quickly.

Cleveland urged to trade Myles Garrett while insiders shut it down

Former New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum argued that Cleveland should explore a blockbuster trade despite Garrett’s Hall of Fame trajectory.
"If the four of us were running the Browns, I would trade Myles Garrett," he said. "He's a great player. He's a Hall of Fame player. But, we're stunk with him, right?"Tannenbaum went further, proposing a hypothetical deal: "Why not get as many [picks] as you can? The trade I said was: 'Why not trade him to Detroit for two picks and Jameson Williams?' Like, who says no to that?"ESPN Cleveland insider Chris Oldach dismissed the suggestion outright.
"Guys, it's not happening," Oldach said. "I don't know how many times Mike Tannenbaum has to bring up a potential trade for Myles Garrett. It's not happening."Garrett’s on-field dominance underscores why Cleveland would hesitate. Despite the team’s last-place finish in the AFC North, he delivered a career-best season with 60 tackles, 43 solo stops, 23 sacks, and 33 tackles for loss. His sack total earned Defensive Player of the Year honors and surpassed marks previously set by Michael Strahan and T. J. Watt.
Trade speculation has linked Garrett to contenders including the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, and Los Angeles Chargers. Any deal would command an enormous return, reflecting his rare ability to change games single-handedly.For Cleveland, the decision is philosophical as much as strategic. Keeping Garrett preserves an elite foundation. Trading him could jumpstart a rebuild. As the offseason unfolds, the Browns must decide whether their future is built around their superstar or reshaped by his value.
